'Medicine' was part of a series commissioned for the ceiling of the University of Vienna's great hall, along with 'Philosophy' and 'Jurisprudence'. The 3 paintings were attacked by critics for "pornography" and "perverted excess". None of the paintings were used for display and all three were later destroyed by the SS.
